alain de botton is one of my favorite contemporary thinkers and his school is life is brilliant. i wish i had started it, haha. maybe i’ll start my own or maybe danielle’s infinite growth platform will turn into something similar.

i’m really into james martin. he makes me want to be a jesuit. i debated being a monk for about a year when took two years off from undergrad. i ended up not doing that because i like sex, but listening to him talk about the world and stuff… it makes me think i could do it.

somehow i’ve found myself in more religious/spiritual conversations lately than i have in a long time. twice in the past few days people have asked me about my relationship to religion or spirituality and i seem to have stumbled onto to several podcasts about christianity and other religions. hm!

on being recently replayed a 2008 episode that was a debate between three white christian men. krista said the 2008 conversation had even more relevance today given how influential white evangelical christians were in putting trump in the white house. while i learned that chuck colson is a believer in the type of blind christianity that repulses me and my generation, it was nice to remember that there are christians in the world like shane claiborne and greg boyd. they really believe in interrogating the bible, especially when it doesn’t seem to support justice in their daily realities. anyway, the interview it gave me three post ideas. today’s is on “being pro-life.””

i go back on forth on this almost daily. actually, probably more often than that. some days i’m like “anyone who voted for trump is not worth my strategic thinking. if you only need 3.5% of a population to move an issue, i’m just gonna focus on that.” other days i’m like “the only way we are going to get out of this is to build such a huge movement that it’s impossible to fail. changing culture is the root problem here and that doesn’t happen by only looking at people who already agree with you.”
