why spring is my least favorite season: part 2

ok, so part of my ranking spring at the bottom is because of spring the characteristics of itself.

but another part of my dislike of spring is about other people’s feelings about spring! (note: i am aware that this is 100% second dart behavior but here i am, attached to it lol. we’re all on our paths, ya know?)

alongside my personal low-ranking of the season, i would say i am on a campaign to put spring in its place. here’s the crux of my argument:

spring chart

heads up: i am about to talk about “people.” you might be “people.” know that i am not judging you.

people get to the first warm day in march and they’re like “OMG YES SPRING HAS ARRIVED” and then when it drops back to 30F two days later, they’re like “FUCK. WINTER IS BACK!”

IMHO, spring is the whole thing. the highs, the lows, all of it.

if anything, i might suggest that spring IS the swinging back and forth. spring IS the transitional phase from winter to summer. what that looks like is wild temperature variance over relatively short amounts of time. not winter; not summer; this funny in between thing. which, per my previous post, is exactly what i don’t like about it(link).

all that said, there are people who (a) genuinely enjoy the wild swinging and (b) prefer the temperatures that we get in spring over the temperatues in summer. it literally only became clear to me last year that there are people who’s brains function less well in high heat. that came as a somewhat major shock to me, having grown up in florida.

so i get it. there are reasons to like spring. but. i just want to be clear that i think some of the reason spring gets such high praise is because people actually mis-label the parts of it that they don’t like as something other than spring. i hate to say it, but those things are spring to. and i hope that those things start to get factored into our collective awareness of what spring actually is.

am i hater? i’ll leave that up to you decide.

(yes lol)
